Why Kenya wants to adopt biometric system developed by Japan
Tokyo: The East African country of Kenya wants to adopt a biometric system developed by Japan, to prevent infant mortality in the country.
According to details, Kenya plans to adopt a biometric medical record system developed by Japanese engineers by the end of this year to
improve the survival rate of newborns.
According to Japanese media, UNICEF says that an estimated 2.4 million infants died within the first 28 days of life in 2020.
Experts say that most of these deaths in developing countries can be prevented by using common medical measures like vaccination.
According to the report, the new system has been developed by the Japanese electronics manufacturer NEI and Nagasaki University
in collaboration with Kenyan researchers.
The system keeps the medical records of the children and links the fingerprints taken at birth to these records. As newborns'
fingerprints are not fully formed, confirmation by their mothers' voices is also included.
If the system succeeds, it will be the first time in the world that the technically difficult verification of newborn fingerprints will be used in practice for the medical system.
