Secret letters written by the Queen of Scotland that remained a secret for almost 450 years




An international team of cryptographers has discovered and decoded more than 50 cryptic letters written by Queen Mary Queen of Scots in the 16th century.


These letters were written by him during his imprisonment in England and have been discovered in the online archives of the National Library of France . This discovery is being considered as the most important development in the last 100 years on this subject . Experts suspected the existence of these letters for a long time, but they were believed to have been lost . The letters have been read by computers and appear to have been written by Mary to Michel de Castelnau Moiseig , the French ambassador to Queen Elizabeth I in London from 1578 to 1584.



Dr John Guy, a leading historian of Mary Stuart research and a professor at Clare College, University of Cambridge, said: "This is great research and the discovery is of literary and historical importance."


Mary was Queen of Scots until 1568 and was born in 1542. She was also the Queen of France for 1 year in 1559 . As the great-granddaughter of Henry VII, she was a strong contender for the throne of England, and the Catholic Church partially recognized her claim.


But due to failed marriages and a succession of political missteps, he had to leave Scotland and spent the last 19 years of his life in the custody of his cousin Queen Elizabeth I . Finally, on February 8, 1587, he was beheaded for plotting the assassination of the English queen . Her tragic end made her a 'martyr' for Catholics and has interested historians, novelists and filmmakers ever since.


A team consisting of computer scientist George Lasry, pianist Norbert Biermann, and astrophysicist Satoshi Tomokyo made the discovery. All three are amateur cryptographers and initially thought the encrypted documents belonged to Italy because they were listed as such in the National Library of France.But he immediately realized that these letters were written in French.
