MADRID: In the process of modernizing the trains, Spain made a unique mistake, forgetting to measure the tunnels while designing the trains.


According to foreign media reports, the railway scandal in Spain has consumed the positions of several officials, the head of Spain's for designing wide trains for narrow tunnels. 


Officials announced their resignations on Monday after criticism over design flaws in the 258 million-euro trains, with jobs tied to the scandal so far and a flurry of resignations. The number has become 4.


These trains are designed so wide that some tunnels will not be able to pass through them and this defect will delay their construction by 2 years. The contract to manufacture 31 metric gauge trains was awarded by Renfe to CAF in 2020.


These trains were intended to be an innovation in medium-distance travel, but in 2021, Renfe realized that the trains had miscalculated and were too wide. These would not be able to pass through some tunnels, so the production of trains was stopped.


It should be noted that the train network in the north of Spain was built in the 19th century, the network passing through the mountainous region includes many tunnels of various sizes that do not correspond to the modern measurement requirements of rail and other vehicles.
